The Summer Olympic Games are finally here, with the opening ceremony kicking off the celebrations tonight in Paris, France. Who else is excited to watch the world’s finest athletes showcase their talents and passion for sport?
Fun Facts about the 2024 Olympics
Location: Paris, France
This will be France’s sixth time hosting the Olympics! They have previously hosted in:
- 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris
- 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix
- 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris
- 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble
- 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville
These Olympic games will be the first in history to have an equal number of men and women competing (5,250 participants).
Another historical event will happen tonight, as the opening ceremony will not be held in the stadium for the first time ever. Instead, the national delegations will sail across the Seine river, which runs through the centre of Paris. They will travel past popular sites such as the Notre-Dame cathedral, the Louvre and the Musee d’Orsay.
The GreenStones team is about to embark on our very own Olympic adventure right here in the office! Over the next two weeks, we’ll be trading our keyboards for table tennis paddles and our chairs for rubber band archery as we engage in some epic lunchtime showdowns!
As we take on these challenges, we’re reminded of the incredible determination and sportsmanship that the real Olympic athletes embody. So, let’s come together, support each other, and share in the excitement of this global event!
Our office Olympics will kick off with an Olympic themed quiz on Monday and after a number of lunchtime games we will end with our very own closing ceremony on Friday 09 July, where the winners will be announced.
