Greenery at GreenStones

The GreenStones team are stepping up their gardening game and will be caring for their very own potted plants.

The GreenStones team are stepping up their gardening game and will be caring for their very own potted plants.

Many of you may know that Kayleigh has become a real parent this year, but as of yesterday the rest of the GreenStones team have become plant parents! Yes, you read that correctly. Each team member has been gifted a plant (picked themselves, from a range of plants) which they will need to look after and care for. Luckily those who arrived at work early had the opportunity to choose first, which resulted in the easiest to care for plants being picked quickly.

Why are we caring for plants?

The idea of this concept is to not only brighten up the office, but also help team members mood.

Did you know that people tend to spend longer time in spaces with a biophilic design – the architectural concept relating to the connectivity between direct and indirect nature (plants, lighting, and ventilation).

Teamwork and communication are also an aspect of this because we are planning on sharing gardening tips throughout the team, as well as the watering responsibilities, especially for those who are on holiday.

If you’re after any more reasons to buy yourself a plant pal then look no further.

Listed below are five reasons on why you should have a plant at work:-

  • Helps improve productivity and a creative environment.
  • Reduces your stress levels and helps to stabilise mood.
  • Improves air quality.
  • Brightens up the office and makes it look more appealing to customers and new team members.
  • A 2015 study showed that having plants in the workspace can reduce sickness.

A healthy workplace

Creating a healthy workplace can include a number of different factors, from physical items such as potted plants and fitness facilities, to having an enjoyable work environment.

Allowing and giving team members an enjoyable work environment, where they are able to easily share ideas, will improve the teams productivity and mood. Employers can also find tips on how they can support their team with their mental health.

In the news recently you may have heard that Adam Neumann is trying to buy back WeWork. The reason why we mention this is due to the company’s business model. The aim of WeWork was to reinvent the way people work. This was done by redesigning office space and creating a coworking environment. Disregarding the inevitable downfall of WeWork and the filing for bankruptcy, the company itself had a logical goal. Working in a creative environment is important!

A growing trend is for businesses to provide facilities and support for team members to improve and maintain their physical and mental health. Purchasing or providing fitness facilities can be difficult. Check out our fun and cost effective alternatives you can do at work:-

  • Turn your commute into a workout (if the location is convenient)
  • Lunchtime walks.
  • On the go meetings – every step counts.
  • Step challenge.
  • Implement standing desks, or stability balls.
  • Regular breaks away from your screen.
  • An office jigsaw can get you away from your desk and helps to challenge the brain.
  • Healthy drinks and snacks.

We would love to see what plants, or facilities you have at your work environment. Please tag us on social media!
